The Glow of an Angel

The Glow of an Angel

Soldiers in the Civil War of 1861-1865 on both sides began reporting wounds shining in the dark after the Battle of Shiloh in 1862. Of the nearly 16,000 wounded who had shining wounds, everything seemed to heal faster. Later studies have shown that this area is probably a breeding ground for P. luminescens, a luminescent bacterium that produces a natural antibiotic.
